In an extensive test of nine high-end disc brakes, German MTB magazine BIKE evaluated braking performance both in the lab and out on the trail. The GUSTAV PRO came out among the strongest performers in the test.
As e-MTBs continue to become heavier due to increasingly powerful motors, larger batteries and longer suspension travel, braking systems face ever greater demands. High braking power and consistent performance are essential for controlling these bikes in demanding terrain.
After testing the nine brakes, BIKE test editor Max Fuchs concluded: “Magura, SRAM, TRP and Hope are the top performers in this test, all delivering more than enough braking power.”
The GUSTAV PRO received a strong overall rating of 1.8 from BIKE, placing it third in the test and making it the most affordable brake among the three podium finishers.
The laboratory results were particularly impressive: the GUSTAV PRO generated high braking force while requiring comparatively little hand effort. This combination helps bring even heavy e-MTBs to a controlled stop with confidence.
Braking force at 40, 60 and 80 N hand force (dry braking):
MAGURA GUSTAV PRO: 217 N | 414 N | 584 N
SRAM MAVEN B1: 238 N | 415 N | 560 N
TRP EVO PRO: 256 N | 422 N | 551 N
The full test is available in BIKE Magazine 05/2026. All laboratory measurements were conducted in accordance with the DIN EN ISO 4210 standard.
